The belief at GAIL's is that success is more than just growing your bottom line, but rather creating a positive impact in the communities around you. It is part of their corporate culture to give back to others. GAIL's believes that all their extra food should be donated to communities in which their bakeries serve. Therefore, the company has developed a sustainable way to distribute their extra food to people who could benefit from their help the most.
Every day, extra food that gets produced at their bakeries is carefully redistributed to 239 different local charities all over Canada. People who receive food from charities include low-income families and individuals experiencing hardships such as food insecurity, homelessness, or another crisis. By donating extra fresh food that was prepared by GAIL's to charities, the company wants to make sure that people receive their meals with dignity and respect.
GAIL's initiative would not be possible without Neighbourly – an organization whose purpose is to ensure that food gets delivered to people who need it in communities where businesses are serving. In this case, it was decided to develop a partnership because Neighbourly shares the same values as GAIL's and its purposes align well together.

All surplus food donated by GAIL’s is handled in strict accordance with food safety standards. Only products that are fresh, properly stored, and safe for consumption are eligible for donation.
All surplus food produced at our bakeries is carefully collected and redistributed to local charities instead of being wasted.
We currently support 239 local charities across Canada, helping a wide range of communities and individuals in need.
Our donations reach people facing food insecurity, including low-income families, individuals experiencing homelessness, and community support groups.
